Why choose us

A Chelsea renovation company you can actually get hold of

Renovation work goes wrong in predictable ways: the trade disappears halfway through, the quote turns out to have excluded half the job, or nobody takes responsibility for the bit between two trades. We run small enough that you deal with the person doing the work.

  • One point of contact. Vitor Fonseca runs the job and answers the phone.
  • Written quotes. Itemised, so you can see what to remove if the total is too high.
  • Clean sites. Floors protected, dust sheeted, and cleared at the end of each day.
  • The right trade for the job. Gas and notifiable electrical work goes to a registered engineer.

Straight talking about scope. If a job needs a structural engineer, a registered gas or electrical engineer, or your freeholder’s written consent, we tell you at quote stage — not once the walls are open.

How it works

From first phone call to finished job

The same four steps whether you are booking a two-hour handyman visit or a full house renovation.

Tell us about the job

Call, email or send the callback form with a few photos. For most jobs that is enough for us to tell you whether it is a half-day visit or a proper programme of work.

Visit and written quote

We come out, measure up and talk through options and materials. You then get a written quote that sets out what is included — and what is not.

Booked in and started

Once you are happy, we agree dates and a payment schedule. Materials are ordered and the property is protected before anything is stripped out.

Snagged and handed back

We walk the job with you at the end, put right anything on your list, and clear the site properly. Work is covered by the warranty listed on our MyBuilder profile.

★★★★★

“Helpful, efficient and friendly the whole way through. He sent over links to different shower fittings and prices beforehand so I could choose, and advised on several other jobs around the flat. He is coming back to build a feature panel for me.”

“I had a long list of odd jobs — electrics, hanging things, kitchen work — and all of it was completed to a great standard. Respectful, quick, and he even sorted a job I had forgotten to mention.”

FAQs

House renovation questions, answered

The questions we are asked most often about renovating a property in Chelsea and South West London.

There is no honest fixed price — a cosmetic refresh of a two-bedroom flat and a full strip-back refurbishment of a four-storey house are different jobs by an order of magnitude. What drives the number is the scope (are you moving walls, plumbing and electrics, or redecorating?), the specification you choose, and access. We quote in writing after a site visit, itemised so you can see what each element costs and take things out if the total is more than you wanted to spend.

As a rough guide, a single room refit is usually one to two weeks, a kitchen or bathroom two to three weeks, and a whole-property refurbishment anywhere from six weeks to several months. London flats add time that has nothing to do with the building work: freeholder consent, lift bookings, restricted working hours and parking suspensions. We build those into the programme at quote stage rather than discovering them in week two.

Yes — that is how most of our clients start with us. No job is too small. If you have a list of small items, send the whole list rather than one job at a time: it is almost always cheaper to deal with ten things in one visit than to book ten separate call-outs.

Internal work such as a kitchen, bathroom, flooring or redecoration normally needs neither. You are more likely to need approval if you are removing or altering a structural wall, changing the layout of a bathroom significantly, or altering the outside of the building. Much of Chelsea also sits within a conservation area, and flats usually need the freeholder's written consent regardless of what the council says. We will tell you when we think consent is needed and work to a structural engineer's drawings where the job calls for them.

We are based on Oakley Street in Chelsea and work across SW3 and the surrounding South West London postcodes — South Kensington, Knightsbridge, Belgravia, Pimlico, Earl's Court, Fulham, Battersea, Clapham, Wandsworth, Putney and Balham among them. The full list is on our coverage page. If you are just outside it, call anyway — it often depends on the size of the job.

My SW Handyman is a Verified by MyBuilder tradesperson with a 5.0 rating from 183 customer reviews, and offers a warranty on completed work as listed on that profile — you can read every review yourself rather than taking our word for it. Gas work and notifiable electrical work are carried out by a registered engineer brought in for that part of the job; we will always tell you when that applies rather than doing it ourselves.

Either works. We are happy to supply everything and put it on the quote, or to fit units, tiles, flooring and sanitaryware you have bought yourself — including flat-pack kitchens and furniture. If you are buying, ask us first about quantities and adhesives: the two things clients most often under-order are tile adhesive and spare tiles for cuts and future repairs.

Call 07947 483126, email info@myswhandyman.co.uk, or use the callback form and we will ring you back. Photos help a lot at this stage. Small jobs can often be fitted in within a week or two; a full renovation needs longer to plan, so it is worth talking to us early even if you are not ready to start.
